The brothers Eoin and Rory Loveless grew up in Castleton, Derbyshire, where they formed Drenge in 2010. The band name was chosen to sound like a noise they would make on stage, and also translates to 'Boys' in Danish. They relocated to Sheffield in 2014. Their self-titled debut album was released on 19 August 2013 on Infectious Records, with artwork featuring Wardsend Cemetery in Sheffield and a nearby scrapyard. The band's second album, Undertow, debuted at number 14 on the UK Albums Chart on 6 April 2015. After a three-year hiatus, they announced a tour titled Grand Reopening in February 2018, with dates in April and May of that year. Their third album, Strange Creatures, was released in February 2019.
